Ground-breaking ceremony Industrial Park BRUGG Lifting AG 2025

The symbolic foundation stone for the Industrial Park 2025 was laid on 16 January 2025 with a ground-breaking ceremony and guests from local politics, business and the media. The multi-million euro project emphasises the company’s innovative strength and continuous growth and will set new standards in production and capacity.

‘The ground-breaking ceremony for the Industrial Park 2025 marks a significant milestone in the history of BRUGG Lifting,’ emphasised Markus Grüter, CEO of BRUGG Lifting. ‘With this project, we are sending a strong signal of our innovative strength and our commitment to the region,’ Grüter continued.

BRUGG Lifting’s business has developed positively in recent years. Over the past four years, sales have increased from around CHF 72 million (2020) to over CHF 100 million (2024), despite the still rather weak construction industry in China. In addition to the production site in Birr (AG), BRUGG Lifting produces at its own plants in Suzhou (China) and Rome (Giorgia, USA). Lift ropes from BRUGG Lifting are also used in the world’s largest buildings – such as the Burj Khalifa (Dubai, UAE), the Shanghai Tower (Shanghai, China) and the One World Trade Centre (New York, USA).

Investments of 13 million Swiss francs

‘With these investments, we are creating the basis for meeting the increasing demands of our customers in the future,’ emphasises Markus Grüter. The expansion of the industrial park will take place in two stages. In the first stage, a new belt cover system (production machine for BRUbelt flat belts) was put into operation in the existing production hall in 2024. The costs for the new belt wrapping system totalled around CHF 3.5 million. At the same time, a new sliding rack was built to support production, providing storage space for over 1,600 pallets of finished products, raw materials and semi-finished products. The lightweight hall was put into operation together with the mobile racking system on 6 December 2024.

In a second step, construction will now begin on the new production hall 6, which will adjoin the existing halls 1 to 5 at the front. This hall will be equipped with two automated small parts racks and will also serve as a logistics centre. Three loading ramps will also be integrated to ensure efficient goods handling. The investment sum for the high-bay warehouse and the production hall amounts to CHF 9.5 million, bringing the total investment sum to CHF 13 million. Construction work on the new production hall will begin in January 2025 and is expected to be completed in February 2026.

‘The new production hall enables the new belt casing system to be optimally integrated and creates an efficient flow of goods with a modern logistics concept. In addition, the maintenance area will be modernised to better integrate our apprentices,’ explains Markus Grüter.

23 new employees

Since the commissioning of the new belt jacket system, BRUGG Lifting has been able to recruit a total of 23 new employees for the office and production. With the expansion of the new production hall, further employees are likely to be added.

The future is also in India

The investments and new production capacities will be used to supply the Indian market in addition to existing markets. ‘So far, China is the largest lift market. In the long term, however, we assume that India will be able to catch up with China. We are therefore currently examining various options as to how we can supply the Indian market with locally manufactured products in order to maintain our global market leadership in the future,’ Markus Grüter explains. To this end, two new employees were recently hired in India.

Expansion of the portfolio: from ropes to complete lift systems

In addition to expanding its production capacities, BRUGG Lifting is also expanding its portfolio. With the new BRUsystem, BRUGG Lifting is offering not only lift ropes and flat belts for the first time, but also a coordinated drive system for lifts.

‘In the pilot phase, we are combining our proven drive expertise with state-of-the-art motor and control technology. With the BRUsystem, we are developing into a full-service provider – and taking your lift projects to a new level,’ says Markus Grüter.
