For the 33rd Penn Station project in New York, a spectacular test installation of the cable-tensioned steel construction was carried out at seele pilsen recently. Due to the high complexity and the special requirements of the steel construction, it was set up for testing in Pilsen before the final installation in New York.
The focus was on the pre-tensioning of the stainless steel cables, which are used to bring the steel structure into its final form. For this purpose, around 105t of primary steel construction, consisting of the A-shaped frame and the surrounding edge beam, were assembled using bolted connections. Then the longitudinal and transverse cables were installed. After the successful assembly of all components, the longitudinal cables were pre-tensioned over the highest point of the so-called "A-frame", bringing it into the final position.
The assembly went smoothly and the result confirmed the precise work in all departments, from design and structural engineering to production and assembly. After this milestone, all components are now being shipped to the United States, where the assembly at Penn Station will begin shortly.
