Two weeks ago a large delivery of wind tower cables left our production site in Brugg. This was in connection with an order for medium and low voltage cables for wind turbines. A total of over 350 medium voltage cable sets will be produced here next year, with our subsidiary in Poland taking care of almost as many low voltage cable sets. With this intensified cooperation we want to further expand the wind energy sector and are already taking an important step towards achieving our growth plans in the wind energy sector.
With our cables for wind turbines we want to continue to contribute to the energy turnaround and thus to more sustainability. In 2019, 15% of the total electricity consumption in Europe will already be covered by wind energy production. Countries such as Denmark (48%), Ireland (33%) and Portugal (22%) show that there is still great potential in Switzerland. Even though the expansion of wind energy increased by 20% last year, only 0.3% of the Swiss electricity demand was covered by wind power plants.
With our cables, we want to be part of this development and make our contribution to equipping wind power plants with high-quality cables. Over the next three years, we expect an increase of almost 30% in the coverage of electricity demand by wind energy.
In the following video Olivier Sakhri, Project Manager Product Management & Engineering, explains in which part of the wind turbines the cables are installed.
