Over the past few years, Geobrugg has invited experts from all over the world to its events – primarily in Switzerland or neighboring countries – to find out more about the latest developments in the natural hazard avoidance industry and within Geobrugg itself. This year, Geobrugg is taking a different approach and holding a major event in British Columbia, Canada. Just like other GEO-Summits, the event will include a program of high-profile internal and
external expert speakers and an external patron.
Geobrugg has been installing ATTENUATOR systems in North America for a number of years. These systems can withstand multiple impacts, are practically maintenance-free, and can be installed where frequent rock fall is expected. However, up to now, there was no scientifically founded dimensioning concept to enable experts to efficiently plan the solution with complete reliability.
Now, in British Columbia – which is also home to the Geobrugg testing site for the ATTENUATOR – the new measuring concept has been unveiled to an international audience at the
GEO-Summit. Live tests showed the motion and behavior of the rotating blocks and the response of the system to an impact, demonstrating the application of the new dimensioning process in practice. Both after the conference and having witnessed the tests, the audience was impressed by the developments.
This step lays the foundations for making this smart protection solution a success far beyond the borders of North America.
