New ROCCO-2000 System at Devilswall
The track section Andermatt – Göschenen of the Matterhorn Gotthard railway is crossed up to 56 times per day. In the tunnel portal area, below the Teufelswand (Devilswall), the railway infrastructure and passing trains are at high risk of rockfall.
In the area below the 70-meter-high Teufelswand, in order to minimize the risk for infrastructure, trains and passengers the ROCCO-2000 system was established. At the same time, this rockfall barrier should ensure the operational availability of the railway line.
Due to unknown trajectories of the rockfall, the highest possible barrier of six meters was installed on a total length of 19 meters.
