Modern design with extra-thick steel wire ropes

13 October 2017

Famous for its modern take on landscaping, Suzhou planned to increase its appeal hugely by creating a new sports park in the city. The new facilities are made up of three buildings: a stadium complete with an athletics track and space for up to 45,000 spectators, an indoor swimming pool that can accommodate 3000, and a multi-purpose hall with room for 15,000. Spanning an impressive width of 250 meters, the new stadium with its open ring rope roof is without a doubt the focal point of the park. For the single-layered steel rope construction with membrane roofing, FA TZER supplied a total of 256 ropes with a combined length of 9000 meters. The fully locked steel ropes are 100, 110, and 120 mm in diameter, while the open coil ropes have a diameter of 26 mm. Measuring 221 meters, the ring ropes are the longest and they are also the heaviest individual components in the roof, weighing in at 14 metric tons. The swimming pool membrane roof is held up by 124 steel ropes with a diameter of 40 mm and a total length of 11,000 meters. Overall, 525 metric tons of steel rope and HYEND end fittings were assembled for both projects.
